All About “Question Tags”

I asked my students what does a tag on clothes looks like? Most of them said that it hangs separately to the piece of clothing. They all agreed it sort of sticks out at the end.

Similarly a Question Tag is a small question that sticks out at the end of a statement. It is used mainly in spoken English and is used, as the name suggests, to ask a question.

A lot of my students agreed to already using them while speaking to their friends. However, that does not imply that they were using correct question tags. This is especially true if you belong to a country where English is not the first language.

Here’s a video explaining the topic.

For those who want to know further about the topic, here’s a link with detailed explanation of how to add question tags to statements.

Once, you’re through with the explanation bit, you can try your hand at thes exercises which will also allow you to check your answers.

Exercise 2

So, how was your score? Did your performance improve from the first to the second exercise?

If you have got a hang of how to use question tags, don’t forget to use them correctly next time you are speaking to your friends.

Have a great day ahead!
